Bernard Boutet de Monvel (1881-1949), a French painter and illustrator, was born in Paris and died in a plane crash in the Azores. Son of illustrator Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel, he trained under Luc-Olivier Merson and Jean Dampt. Known for his Art Deco and Precisionist style, he excelled in urban landscapes, particularly of the United States in the 1920s-1930s. His oil-on-canvas works capture the modernity of skyscrapers and urban scenes with clean geometry and a refined palette. His landscapes, often framed in wood, reflect the elegance and rigor of his era.
