Franz Beer, an Austrian painter, studied architecture at the Academy of Applied Arts and at the Vienna School of Fine Arts. From 1951 onwards, he travelled to Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France and the United States. After arriving in Paris in 1958, Franz Beer joined the group of artists exhibiting at the Bing Gallery. In the 1960s he became a professor at various American universities before returning to Europe. Franz Beer’s art is characterized by formal research. His work in paste combines the element of nature with a certain rigor of construction. The predominant material is subject to a certain spatial structure. The surface lives with the light. The light amplifies the thickness of the paste, creates shadows and reliefs.
